History

1999 - The Montessori Project

Montessori School of Central Vermont began as the Montessori Project in September 1999 led by siblings Claudia and Michael Bagiackas and a group of seven families.

2000 - Center School Montessori

The Project became Center School Montessori it in the spring of 2000 when the Center School Playgroup offered Montessori a space at the historic Center School in Plainfield, VT.

2005 - Montessori School of Central Vermont, Inc.: dba Center School Montessori and Montpelier Montessori School

In the spring of 2001, Kathleen Poole assumed responsibility for the program and guided the school to full enrollment. The school’s overwhelming success and regular requests from parents for the establishment of program near Montpelier and a Montessori elementary program prompted the school’s expansion in the fall of 2005. It is with this expansion that Center School Montessori became Montessori School of Central Vermont. From 2005-2011 the Montessori School operated two sites: Center School Montessori in Plainfield and Montpelier Montessori in Montpelier/Berlin. The Montpelier Montessori School first operated out of a small space on Spring Street in Montpelier with a group of 12 students. After only one year the Montpelier Montessori School outgrew this space and moved to expand further at Karl Circle in Berlin.

2010 - Elementary Program established

With continued support from the community an elementary program was started in 2010 with a group of first and second grade students. Today the Montessori School of Central Vermont serves elementary grades 1-6. In 2012 Kristen Martin became Head of School and the Montessori trained faculty grew to meet the needs of the growing population of children served.

2015 - Toddler Program established

In the Fall of 2015 MSCVT was excited to begin providing care for younger members of the community when we opened a Toddler Community Program for children ages 18-36 months.

2016 - Purchase of permanent home at beautiful Pine Hill Road

Today the Montessori School of Central Vermont houses all programs, toddler through elementary, at 84 Pine Hill Road, providing quality learning environment and supporting the development of each child as an individual.
